A Quick Review: Czarface by Inspectah Deck/7L & Esoteric

In 2013 my personal favorite Wu-Tang member, Inspectah Deck dropped a new LP with the Boston Hip hop duo of 7L and Esoteric. 7L is the producer and Esoteric is the MC of the duo. Wu-Tang brothers, Ghostface Killah and Cappadonna also contribute to this album, as do underground rappers like Action Bronson, Vinnie Paz, Roc Marciano, and Mr. Muthafuckin' Exquire. While Deck missed out on having a highly respected solo career like his peers Raekwon, Ghostface, GZA, or even ODB I had some decent expectations of this album.

I'm dirty at the Grammys , crash your glamorous affair. Spazzin' on the air, smash 'em with the flair

Esoteric also impresses here given the MC he's planted next to, what choice did he have? The two mesh together well to create a battle like album, and it does work. 7L's production is also quite good, DJ Premier also drops one beat. As you could imagine by the cover there's a lot of comic book references here, there not too over the top. This whole project sounds like a bit of a 90s throwback without sounding aged or out of place.

INS ya highness, AKA B52, AKA Joe Lou(is), the Brown Bomber. Wear your armor.

Czarface is not an album of the year contender as far as 2013 is concerned, infact I think Ghostface's Twelve Reasons to Die was better but this shouldn't be as overlooked as it is. Wu fans, I know the solo albums haven't been too great as of late, but this may help you out. Also, yes...it bangs in the whip. Side note: This album has a George Carlin sample.

The Highlights:
Air 'Em Out
Hazmat Rap

The Lowlight:
Dead Zone

The Gem:
World War 4

Is it Worth a Purchase?
Yo, it's a lyrical LP collab with some classic MCs and up and comers. Plus, it bump in the whip. Buy it.

Overall Grade: B+

Until next time, One Love.
