Black Cocaine by Mobb Deep Review

In 2011, the legendary Hip hop duo of Prodigy and Havoc released a new EP entitled Black Cocaine. Now for real, Mobb Deep ain't really been on their shit since Murda Muzik. They also haven't done a real project since Blood Money in 2006 albeit a compilation album. Most of their fans were thrilled that the kids from Queens were finally putting out fresh new work, It's only a five track EP but is it worth being excited over? Well this did lead to a new album, the highly praised The Infamous Mobb Deep LP earlier this year. But was the preceding work dope? (no pun intended)

Dead Man Shoes feat. Bounty Killer
Fuckin' right that bitch up in my face you getting boned, Money getta, I put batteries in nigga's backs
Pretty okay opening track. There's no skit for an intro so ay! +1. Bounty Killer does alright but he's only in for a minute. The originals are decent in their work.

Black Cocaine
The Constitution I go by, Cash Rules Everything Around Me
The Alchemist returns to produce for the legends and it's some dope work by him. The hosts do pretty well here. Nothing to say blow you away like "Ohhh!!! Mobb's back!" but it's not embarrassing either.

Conquer
Mobb Deep conquer music. That's basically the topic, though they drift off from it sometimes. The song's not very long either so it's rather noticeable when they don't stay on task. Passable.

Get it Forever feat. Nas
We come from where murders occur often on late nights. NIggas is high and they eyes be red as two brakelights The Queens Kids are all together once again. There was a supposed Prodigy-Nas beef but the finest are back for the best track on here. Far more reminiscent of their gritty past in Hip Hop and survival in Queens project. Beats done by a dude named Young Free, it ain't too bad for a cat i never heard of.

Last Days
Similar feel to Get it Forever. Mobb Deep sounds like their back on their old game and shit. I'd say it comes in too late, but it's only five tracks anyhow.

Limited Edition Bonuses
The limited edition of Black Cocaine comes with two bonus tracks to extend this to seven, all are actually music. Shots fired, Kill at Will.

Waterboarding
A slow dark sounding shift in tone. Beat ain't half bad either, but shit Alchemist did it. It's a pretty nice bonus.

Street Lights feat. Dion Primo
This is a lot better than most of the material put down here. The Mobb actually go into some shit and reflect a little. This probably should be on the original version.

The Highlights:
Get It Forever
Last Days
Street Lights (bonus)

The Lowlight:
Conquer

The Gem:
Waterboarding

Is it Worth a Purchase?
Not really. A physical copy of this isn't necessary to your life unless you're completing Mobb Deep's discography. It's short as hell, but so was Kill At Will and I gave that a dope rating so what's the problem? Well Kill At Will had Dead Homiez and Jackin' for Beats on it. This has some dope material but nothing that really strikes you except Get It Forever. Some of this made it onto their new album anyhow. Which I will check out soon.

Overall Grade: C

Until Next Time, One Love.
