A Quick Review: Kill The Architect by Cage

Last year Cage did a return to his original style of Mighty Mi producing after his failed experimental album Depart from Me. But hey, that didn't work out so brush that off and start again. There he released Kill The Architect in 2013. I've been conflicted with this release. It's not similar to Movies for the Blind or even Hell's Winter as much as it might be his experiment. It's not catchy but nor does it try to be. It's bleak and dry but there is substance here.

It's a dark tale as Cage always tells, this time a drug free man who has a story to tell and he wants to share it. He has the feel of a man who's given up on life and still has something to say. The album is vulgar and obscene as his past work but not to the exaggerated levels of Movies for the Blind or ...For Your Box.

We use the same planet, we breathe the same air. We piss yellow and bleed red. We don't care, worship the same sun until it falls into the Sea.

Cage hasn't censored himself or even toned down his thoughts only how he presents them. He doesn't shout and proclaim he's dying in the grinders in a slaughterhouse or state he's waking up next to cut up hookers but that does make for a much more mature project overall. His insights of life and death aren't common in hip hop right now and maybe that's what makes him stand out in the releases I've reviewed as of late. However it does take a few listens to really enjoy and that's a slight issue.

Death is a cunt, thinks my silence can wait Raped to this day because the style is so great

The Highlights:
You Were The Shit (In High School)
Merry Mythras (Deluxe only)
In Your Fur

The Lowlight:
Watch Me

The Gem:
Cursed

Is it Worth a Purchase?
Again, not for everyone. Cage isn't an easy emcee to get used to and this album is no different in that retrospect of his past work. It took me a few listens to love this album but i'd recommend to fans of dark hip hop.

Overall Grade: B-

Until Next Time, One Love.
