The Massacre by 50 Cent Review

Oh Curtis, what happened? He had all the hype in the world, a hugely successfully debut and seemingly on a good path. How did he fall off like he did? Well after the Curtis album debacle with his challenge that he would retire if he didn't outsell Kanye he seemed to lose all credibility. Before I Self Destruct was lead up by dope mixtapes then the album was mediocre at best. I've already gone over the Animal Ambition mess, but what about The Massacre? This album came after the success and before the embarrassment. Let's see if its worth the time of day.

Intro
Random gunshot intro, like a massacre. Yep.

In My Hood
This isn't too bad. Get Rich opened right out the gate with What Up, Gangsta? Grabbing your attention. This does the job. However...it does show 50's biggest fault. He is extremely one dimensional.

This is 50
Hardly notice a song change. Fits in with consistently I suppose.

I'm Supposed to Die Tonight
Bet your bottom dollar that revolver wit' me
Ok I actually do like this one. 50's rolling through the hood looking for people out to kill him. It's not a story telling masterpiece or anything but it does what its supposed to do. this would've been a better opening.

Piggy Bank
Clickety Clank, clickety clank the money go sent to my piggy bank
AKA How to bite off more than you can chew. 50's How to Rob record was perfect for the time. It was a track calling out big names and getting responses and attention, similar to Roxxanne Shante's deal. The problem? This was way unnecessary. Most of these seem unprovoked and just about everyone he calls out can bodybag him. He takes shots at Ja, which is expected but a bit of a dead horse by now. Fat Joe and Jada who were both rising but not popular enough to take him down, only to put dents. Then Game as Mr. Potato Head in the video, given they had just ended their partnership. Supposedly a Cassidy diss is in the video somewhere. He also takes shots at another rapper...who? Well...

Kelis said her milkshake bring all her boys to the yard, then Nas went and tattooed the bitch on his arm
So I suppose 50 heard Ether and thought it would be cool if he was dissed on it. Nas replied with the "Don't Body Ya Self" warning diss and Curtis never replied to my knowledge. This shit was just a cry for attention he didn't need.

Gatman and Robbin feat. Eminem
Despite a constant friendship Em and Fif don't team up like that. there's never been a high demand for it either, it's like they were a early 2000s Meth & Red. But here they worked pretty well. there's a goofy Batman and Robin like theme in the background, it's unique at least.

Candy Shop feat. Olivia
What do I say about this shit? There's corny punchlines, horrible lyrics, a cheesy ass chorus. It's basically one of those songs you play to laugh in nostalgia. 50's credibility was dipping harder and hard.

Outta Control
Passable club shit. Album's still doing very little for me at this point.

Get In My Car
You could rename quite a few tracks here "Filler Part X" and no one would take a second look. There's not even shit i can say about these songs.

Ski Mask Way
I figured this was referring to Biggie Smalls. I can't tell you if it is, i hardly remember it. Beats pretty good though, but 50's doing jack shit on it. And you were calling out Nas on this album?

A Baltimore Love Thing
A girl's obsessed with 50 and can't let him go. I remember the topic, i also recall some nonsense lines about the girl having a bisexual sister. Curtis telling a dope story seems to be rarer than seeing a fuckin' unicorn crossing the street.

Ryder Music
I could've reviewed a bottle of Nyquil in place of this album and i'd have the same results by now.

Disco Inferno

Just a Lil Bit
I considered giving you two Craig Mack faces. What the fuck is the point of this album? You put a single calling out Nas, Fat Joe, and Jadakiss to prove some bully dominance shit, and then half the album is lame ass club tracks. At least make it dope like Get Rich or Die Tryin' did. I don't know what's more tired, the album or me.

Gunz Come Out
Possibly the best track here, if only i hadnt been in a vegetative state for the past 10 tracks. It's not wildly creative but it's just of better quality. 50's better, the hook and beats better. This feels like it actually fucking belongs.

My Toy Soldier feat. Tony Yayo
Before Kidd Kidd, there was Tony Yayo. This is not necessary in my life, or yours.

Position of Power
I feel like there's actually a concept to this track, a semi interesting one. But the music is meh. The LP feels more and more watered down as we go on.

Build You Up feat. Jamie Foxx
Jamie Foxx is cool here. He's basically his regular ol' self. Which is a God send on this album. This is better than most of the filler here.

God Gave Me Style
and he gave you little to no writing ability.

So Amazing feat. Olivia
Please end the album already.

I Don't Need 'Em
50 Doesn't need Eminem. Technically this was true. Song's decent if im being honest. I don't despise it.

Hate It or Love It G-Unit Remix feat. Lloyd Banks, The Game, Young Buck, and Tony Yayo
It's a posse cut alright...am i going to break it down...? Do I have to? They're in a group i shouldn't have to. 50 reuses his same verse from the original. Game rewrites a decent one. Banks and Buck are okay, Yayo's booty cheeks. There, am i fucking done yet!? Oh I am. Window Shopper and the ass cheese remix of Best Friend are on the France re-release. They can't save this album either.

The Highlights:
I'm Supposed to Die Tonight
In My Hood
Hate It or Love It (Remix)

The Lowlights:
Piggy Bank
Candy Shop
My Toy Soldier
Just a Lil Bit

The Gem:
Gunz Come Out

Is it Worth a Purchase?
Do you have the slightest impression I had fun here? The album is so one dimensional and just damn boring. The Massacre, Massacre of fuckin' what? A promising MC? Maybe. 50 sets himself up to be a alpha male in the game and breaks himself down with unnecessary disses, shitty dance tracks, and filler. Stay away. This was the beginning of the end of 50 Cent.

Overall Grade: D

I'll try a younger NY rapper next time. Til Then, One Love.
